Research before you buy!! July 10, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
ok, nice pictures but I had a lens error right after the 6 month warranty ran out and after a little research i found out it is quite common with canon digital cameras. So search for "lens error" or e18 lens error and canon. None of the suggestions fixed it. Nothing I can do but get a new camera and it definitely won't be a canon!!! A lot of people have had problems getting canon to even honor the warranty.
PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA! July 7, 2007 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
At first this camera was great. I bought it about 4 monhts ago and was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews regarding len's errors. Well, I should have listened to my gut feeling about this. Dropped this camera once inside my house on carpeting and that was it. It didn't fall hard and it didn't land with the lens out. The drop wasn't very bad, I would certainly think it would be a little more durable. Accidents happen, cameras should not break that easily. I will never ever buy another canon.
Canon PowerShot SD600 6MP Digital Elph Camera July 6, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a GREAT camera!!! I know a lot about cameras from working as a photographer's assistant for 8 years and did a lot of research before I bought this camera. I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. It's a great camera for going out and I have no problem taking pics in a dark bar/club. I've even been able to get decent hand-held pics at sporting events. You may get red eye in close group shots, but that's to be expected with the flash placed so closly to the lense. Anybody who says this camera doesn't take good pics does NOT know how to use a camera...The Auto setting is very user friendly and you should be ale to figure out the proper manual settings if you read the instructions.
Great until the Dreaded E16 lens error June 20, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Don't get me wrong, I loved my sd600.... when it actually was working. Everything was going perfect with my camera. A week after my friend had the E16 lens error, I went to Sydney to go see the Blue mountains. I take one picture of the camp grounds, turn it off, then turn it on 20 minutes later to have this error come up and ruin my trip at sydney. Of course when you are in a place with breathtaking scenery, you are going be be bummed about not being able to capture those kodak moments.
The E16 error is a common error known throughout canon cameras, and I only found out about it after my defect. It is not covered by the warranty because they think its misuse because particles like dust or sand can get in. THEN WHY GIVE A BEACH AUTO FEATURE, DO YOU WANT US TO BREAK OUR CAMERAS?!
My question is, how come so many other brands of camera dont get the lens error as common as canon does. 2 of my friends have the same model and theirs broke as well. One shelled out 150 to get it repaired and the other just bought a new camera. Cameras in Australia are very expensive and I bought this before I came here. The camera costs about 200 US when I got it, and the closest replacement was 400AUD, which is about 340 to 350.
All I have to say is, the camera is great during its life. But I weary of buying another canon for awhile. I rather go for a brand that may not have the best auto features like color swap and accent, but it at least works past 4 to 12 months. Even my minolta with a messed up lcd screen is still taking awesome pictures and I had it at the beach forever and this piece of crap dies in 3 months.Definitely staying away from canon, and it sucks cause i loved it when it was useful.
